Every year, my daughter starts thinking about Halloween costume ideas during the summer! Last year, she decided that she and her younger twin brothers should be sock monkeys. All three of our kids are obsessed with collecting sock monkeys, so I wasn’t surprised that this topped her short-list of potential Halloween costume ideas. And, I mean, really…what could be cuter? I… Read More
If you’re anything like me, you’d take a pretty, no carve pumpkin idea over a pile of pumpkin guts any day of the week. It’s not that we don’t carve pumpkins around here; it’s just that I save that messy job for my husband ;-). He and Miss G have a standing tradition of carving the pumpkin and roasting the seeds… Read More
As mentioned in previous years’ Halloween posts, I’m all about cute, kid friendly Halloween decorating ideas. I don’t know about you, but as a kid, I always avoided the houses that scared the bejesus out of me. Yep, I was a wimp. Yep, I am still a wimp. Plus, my kids are still really young, and they have pretty gentle… Read More
Greetings friends! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, and are enjoying lots of time with family and friends. I’ve been away from the blog for a couple of weeks to focus on the merriment! But as New Year’s Eve draws nearer, I thought I’d continue with my annual tradition of posting a look back at my year in mantel decorating ideas. You can find my 2012 Year of Mantels here and 2011 Year of Mantels here.
If you’ve been following along here for awhile, you might know already that my fireplace mantel is a bit of a decorating muse for me! I find that mantel decorating for seasons and special holidays helps keep things feeling festive around here, especially during the less festive times of year. Looking back at 2013, I changed my mantel decorating a lot less frequently than in other years. That’s because the room our fireplace is in was disorganized for several months as we changed the room from a living room to a TV room. But I did manage to add some festive spirit to the mantel for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Fall, Halloween and Christmas… READ MORE HERE!
Well, hello my lovelies and happy Monday! It’s starting to look a lot like Halloween around here. I took down my fall wreath today, and added a little Halloween whimsy to the front porch with a diy ribbon wreath.
Last year, I had orange sparkly “BOO” letters on the front door. But I fell in love with some black polka dot burlap ribbon I found at Michaels. (I love polka dots, as you can see on my Halloween mantel.) Well, that cute polka dot burlap needed a project. And you know how that one goes ;-). Along with the burlap, I ended up with a cart full of ribbon and sparkly tulle. READ MORE
I said last week that I wasn’t going to bother with much Halloween decorating this year, particularly a mantel. Ha! I should know better by now than to say such things! Even though our Fall mantel (with the giant peel and stick posters of our kids) could have stuck around through Halloween, I got the urge to change things up! I was a little sad to take down the giant photos, but they’ll find a place in our Fall decorating again next year.
I’ve mentioned before that I’m all about cute Halloween decorating, READ MORE
Um, did somebody say Halloween decorating? I’m sure I saw some here and here and pretty much all over my Pinterest feed. Is it just me, or did September just evaporate before our eyes? I feel so behind this Fall. Sheesh. I only just finished a little early Fall decorating, and now Halloween is upon us! . I’m usually brainstorming new… Read More
I’m so super-excited about this Fall mantel decorating project, that I’ll give you a picture first, and talk a bit after… . In case you didn’t notice, my Fall mantel has giant photos of our kids ;-). . Not only that: They are giant peel and stick photos! , Say wha? Yup. Peel and stick. And did I mention… Read More
“FALL!” There…I said it. I usually walk on egg-shells this time of year as any mention of “FALL!” can drive Summer fans over the edge. But if you’ve followed my decorating blog for more than a minute, you probably know that I’m cray-cray-crazy for Fall, and I’ve actually shown great self-discipline by staying quiet this long! I hate to wish Summer away too, but you know what? I might as well just admit that I’m sooo not a Summer kind of girl. Fall is definitely my pace. I saw the first leaves turn color this weekend, so I’m now itching to break out the pumpkins. I decided to flip back through some of my Fall decorating pictures for inspiration.
Here’s how Fall has looked around here over the past few years…READ MORE!
