There’s been more than a few crickets chirping away here for the past while as I’ve been spending less time here and more time with three kids enjoying summer. But next week, I’ll be coming out of my summer hiding for an exciting tour of Canadian design/decor bloggers homes. If you love the chance to peek inside others’ homes (in… Read More
Bonjour friends! Well, if you’ve opened a decorating magazine in the past year, you’ve certainly noticed that graphic wallpaper is all the rage. Despite my past wallpaper aversion (created by our first fixer upper), I’ve been so wooed by these new wallpapers that I even decided to create a wallpaper accent in our master bedroom which I shared awhile back. (Picture posted below.) I absolutely love the visual interest and style statement that geometric wallpaper like this makes, but the best wallpaper for creating warmth doesn’t come in a bold pattern. Here’s a true fact that you might not know about me: I’m a chronic changer around-er. When it comes to home accessories, I’m always moving things!
I swear, if you were to visit me every month, our house would never be the same way twice.
I could be watching The Good Wife, and before I know it, my decorating subconscious has rearranged the room. By the end of the episode, I’ve already stolen the required lamp from the living room, and a mirror from the hall and I’m caught up in a twister of wall art and toss pillows. READ MORE
Did you catch my post about our gold and white Christmas tree the other day? I’ve also added some other gold and white Christmas decorating touches around the house. This year’s Christmas decorating is a little more glam than usual!
Gold and White Christmas Decor: The Foyer
I hesitate to call this a Holiday House Tour like some of those you’ll see on other decorating blogs this time of year. Have you seen some of those? Wowsa, soooo beautiful, and so thorough! (If you follow me on Facebook, I’ve been sharing some of my faves over there.)
The thing is, photographing a holiday house tour requires a tidy home and well, mine, just isn’t! (Yet?). (You see my 2012 holiday house tour here and my 2011 holiday house tour here). Keepin’ it real: there’s still some random Christmas decorating bins and bags hanging out in the corners, along with the regular daily stuff that 3 kids leave behind. So to spare you from all that, I’ve just photographed some of the little pops of Christmas you’ll find around our home.
In the foyer, you’ll find our new white deer head hanging in a big green wreath (more on styling this guy in another post!), with some gold polka dot ribbon. The foyer table has a little white tree decked out in gold and light blue beaded garlands. READ MORE
La la, dee dee dah, da dum…dum, dum, dum…
Oh. my. gosh. I’m soooo tired. Over the past two weeks, we switched two main rooms in our home, the living room and the TV room, and it was completely unplanned. Here’s a little hint why, in case you aren’t already singing Billy Joel along with me…
Yup, a piano.
We finally bit the bullet and bought a piano for our 9yo daughter. She’s been taking lessons for a couple of years, but practicing on an electronic keyboard. We put off buying her a piano because we really didn’t think we had anywhere to put one. Our main floor is mostly ‘open concept’ with only a few walls, and the rooms we do have aren’t that large. But as it turns out, where there’s a will, there’s a way!
Given that I wanted to buy a good used piano, I figured it would take me months to find the right one. But the very day I started looking, I lucked into a fab deal on a used Yamaha U1 piano. Isn’t that always the way? READ MORE…
Every year at this time, I like to visit our little summer cottage. It’s an old two-story home in a quiet town by the ocean. The front door a pretty shade of pale pink, and the window boxes are overflowing with flowers. From the aqua-painted Adirondack chairs, you can hear the waves crash on the nearby beach. The decor is simple and uncluttered, and the worn bookcases are filled with board games and great reads. At night, the front deck is lit only by tea lights in mason jars filled with shells, beach rocks and urchins we’ve collected.
Haven’t I told you about this place before? Oh, um, that’s right. I haven’t. Well…err…that’s because it’s not actually a *real* place. I just visit it in my dreams. (Hey, don’t judge, lol.) But I’ve been dreaming about it for so long that it feels real. That must count for something, right? You see, over a decade ago, we had our wedding reception in a clapboard-sided, saltbox-style B&B in a small town by the Atlantic Ocean. Ever since, I’ve been imagining a summer get-away a lot like that place.
Want to know what my dream summer cottage looks like inside? Come along and I’ll show you!
Well, for starters, the views are stunning.
