Well hello lovely friends! It’s been ages since I’ve blogged. I’ve missed you guys. So, when the lovely and oh-so-talented Christina from the DIY Mommy decided to host another Canadian Bloggers Home Tour, Summer Edition, I was excited to share my latest summer decorating adventures with you. So do you do any summer decorating around your house? Well, at our house, summer… Read More
There was a time in the not-so-distant past when I would re decorate my mantel every season. I love when our home reflects the different seasons and holidays throughout the year. But, over the past year, it became a little overwhelming to keep up with that pace. I started to like the idea of decorating a mantel that lasts all… Read More
You might have noticed in yesterday’s post that I love playing with nautical decor in summer. Having grown up on an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, I probably have saltwater running through my veins. Still, I think I’d be drawn to this style even if I lived in the desert. When done right, there’s a timeless appeal to this… Read More
By now, you know I love decorating my fireplace mantel for different seasons and holidays. This year’s been a little different: it actually hasn’t changed all that much! I’m not gonna lie: I’ve enjoyed the ease and simplicity of keeping things the same for awhile. But we brought home some pretty beach rocks recently, so I created a beach-y summer… Read More
One of the fun things about having a decorating blog is that it holds you to task on projects that might otherwise get half-finished (or not done at all). Rhoda, at Southern Hospitality holds a link-up every year at this time to look back at bloggers’ favorite DIY and home decor projects of the year. I thought I’d join in and take a look back at some of the projects I managed to accomplish amid the daily circus that is 3 kids and a dog!
This DIY painted wall canvas with the inspirational quote, “Love Conquers All”, was one of my most visited posts in 2012, which came as a surprise because it was an unplanned, spur-of-the-moment project. The interest in this project was one of the reasons I later decided to do a whole series on DIY Wall Art Ideas in October 2012.
Much to our kids’ delight, I also finished decorating our renovated basement. I was thrilled when it was later featured at Apartment Therapy (Family), as well as on RemodelAholic and Home Stories A 2 Z .

With my dad’s help (thanks dad!), we also re-painted our entire main floor in a new color scheme of blue, gray/grey, and cream – using Benjamin Moore Woodlwan Blue, Navajo White, Silver Fox and Revere Pewter. It provided great entertainment for our 2-year old boys!
I was really happy with how it all turned out, and showed the results in a couple of posts about the living room and the kitchen.
I’ve been freakishly addicted to changing my mantel for special holidays and for the seasons long before I started blogging about home decor. But when I did start blogging, I was happy to discover that there are lots more ‘mantel freaks’ out there too! It’s fun and creative, and it helps in some small way to keep our home feeling festive even in the duldrums of our regular routine.
In 2012, my mantel changed at least 10 times from what I could count (yup, freakishly, I tell ya)!
Here were some of my faves…READ MORE
Tonight I wanted to give you a peek at a pretty paper pennant garland that I made as a summer decoration for a little get-together we had at our home that involved copious amounts of lobster (mmmmm). First, though, can you believe that its going to be August in just a couple of days? I don’t know about you, but I feel… Read More
It’s been a awhile since I decorated my mantel. It’s odd for me not to have some kind of seasonal decor on my mantel at all times! But ever since we painted the living room early this spring, I’ve been enjoying the room’s simplicity. I’ve only had a few glass candlesticks up there, with a new round mirror. Seeing that… Read More
