One fun thing about having a decorating blog is that you can pick any little decor-worthy part of your day and make it big news.  Like, take for example, if the mood strikes, the fact that you bought a new duvet cover last week for your 8-year old’s room can become a late-breaking headline!  So, if you haven’t guessed it by now, today’s post is about a duvet cover for my 8-year old’s room.  HUGE news, I know! ;-)

I haven’t been in any rush to change it, but Miss G’s room has been on my radar for awhile.  Her fairy ballerina bedding is really pretty, but is starting to feel a little baby-ish for her. Sheesh, how quickly did THAT happen?  I don’t want to give the room a complete makeover, just a little editing with some bright pops of color.

Here’s a little collage from my Home Tour section that gives you a feel for the room now…

So, even though I wasn’t actively looking, when I spotted this bright, fun duvet cover that would work with her lime green walls and pink accents, it was as if the heavens opened up and the angels started singing right there in the middle of Bed Bath and Beyond.

It was such a perfect match that I really could have just thrown the duvet on the bed and been done with it.  But I didn’t.  Why? Because I’m me.  And ‘me’ makes things too complicated.

Before I knew it I was imagining new room accessories and wall art.

And, that led me to Michaels to buy matching craft paint…

Martha Stewart paint

and to pulling out stencils from my stash, like this one by Royal Design Studio that I got in the fab swag bag from Haven

and then stenciling…

Yup.

‘Me’ needs some serious craft addiction therapy. For real.

But aren’t spontaneous craft projects the best ones?!?

Can’t wait to see where this project goes, and to show you how it all comes together!

Until next time,

I can relate to this post. I changed my daughter’s quilt to a white one, as her last one was too busy for my liking (she chose it) and I had no other intention to change anything else in her room. Well, you know how that goes….it ended up being a mini makeover that consumed our entire long weekend….so much work, but so much fun!!!

  2. Spontaneous craft projects are the BEST! Which is exactly why I have so many half done projects around. I will start a new one on a whim and the other’s get pushed to the side. lol
