This Christmas season, I’ve been inspired by all things mini in mason jars. If you frequent Pinterest or Instagram, then you’ve certainly seen your share of mason jar snow globes. I’m obsessed with them! I’ll show you a few that I created in another post. Tonight, I wanted to share these cute DIY personalized Christmas ornaments that I created using a similar idea. Instead of using a mason jar, I used small spice jars as they are the perfect size to hang on a Christmas tree. They would make a sweet gift for somebody special. I made mine for my daughter and my niece and nephew.
Instead of using Christmas mini ornaments inside the spice jars which can be quite expensive at craft stores, I decided to use scrapbooking stickers. I was once an avid scrapbooker (pre-3 kiddos, lol), so I still have an inventory of stickers that were never used. Given that I was aiming for very personalized Christmas ornaments, I also purchased some new ones that reflected the personal interests of the recipients. You can find good deals on scrapbooking stickers at dollar stores, or when they go on sale at Michaels.
Because I was making these personalized Christmas ornaments for my daughter, and my niece and nephew, I selected stickers that matched their individual passions. You’ll find everything in the spice jars from sports to music to pizza ;-). I wanted the ornaments to be meaningful and tell their personal story.
My nephew’s includes sports-related things, like a hockey jersey and soccer ball, but also reflects his musical talents through a music note and a trumpet. My daughter’s ad niece’s have some performing arts things, along with other sports and musical interests like a soccer ball and a clarinet.
Personalized Christmas Ornaments: Materials
To make these personalized Christmas tree ornaments, all you need is:
- a glass spice jar
- scrapbooking stickers (3D style are best, but any would work)
- faux snow
- scissors, tweezers
- mini Christmas trees (optional)
- glue gun (optional)
Personalized Christmas Ornaments: How to
Here’s the easy-peasey steps for making these personalized Christmas ornaments:
First, so that your stickers won’t stick together in the jar:
- For stickers that arrive on a transparent film: Leave the stickers attached to film. Cut around them carefully.
- For stickers on a solid film: Remove the scrapbooking stickers from their film. (Many are fragile as I learned the hard way). Cover over the sticky part of the stickers with a small scrap of paper.
Place mini trees in jar first (if using any), and secure with your glue gun. (Optional)
Sprinkle in some faux snow.
Use tweezers to arrange your stickers carefully inside the spice jar in a way that all are visible.
- You’ll also want both the front and back of the spice jar to have stickers showing when the ornament is hung on the tree.
Close the jar, and tie ribbon to the jar lid for hanging on the tree.
It’s that easy!
The fun thing about these personalized Christmas ornaments is that you can add new things to them each year. Just open the spice jar lid, and place anything in there that is meaningful and personal.
I hope all your Christmas preparations are in full swing, and that you take time to enjoy the things that make you smile during the coming weeks.
Until next time,
