A Pop of…errrrr…Yellow?

This post was most recently updated on September 22nd, 2019

I’ve never been a big lover of yellow.   I’m not really sure why.

I guess some people are just naturally drawn to warmer colors, while others (like me) are perfectly happy swimming in a sea of cool hues.  I could be wrong, but I think I’ve ever only used yellow twice: the exterior of our last home (a siding color called maize), and in our kids’ rubby ducky bathroom (kind of a mandatory, lol).

But lately, I’ve been really drawn to yellow.

Perhaps it’s my new love of grays (see White Kitchen + Gray Walls: Reveal) that has me in a yellow state-of-mind.  Gray and yellow seem to be one of the ‘it’ pairings these days, so I’m seeing way more yellow inspiration then I would normally seek out. And, I have to admit,I am really loving rooms with happy, vibrant pops of yellow.

Like, for example, this pretty darn fabulous, yellow painted table from Poppy Seed Creative Living.

Or, this too-flipping-cute-for-words sliding yellow barn door.

And, how about this awesome use of yellow on the fireplace surround in the studio of Brooklyn Bride.

It seems all this yellow inspiration has been sneaking its way into my consciousness.  I just painted two Adirondack chairs in the backyard an arresting shade of yellow – Behr’s Lions Yellow.  And, I’m even pulling together a happy little art collection in my front porch that has a few vibrant hits of yellow against our Ben Moore Revere Pewter walls.  I’m hoping to finish it later this week.

Still, I’m not doing a big ‘ol yellow happy dance…yet. While I’ve embraced a few pops of yellow, don’t hold your breath to see a whole room in my home decorated in yellow.  (Let me guess, you really weren’t holding your breath were you?!? ;-))  But I DID have fun pulling this ‘virtual’ room together, instead of watching Dancing With the Stars.  Note to self: Really. Must. Get. Out. More.

I’ll be back a little later in the week to show you what I’ve been working on in the porch!

Until then, have a happy week.
