Cookoo for Cobalt Blue!

I’ve always had a thing for cobalt blue clothing and accessories, but this season, I’m crazy in love. Cobalt blue is one of those few colors that seems to work with any skin tone or hair color. For me, it’s an instant pick-me-up. And, as one of this season’s ‘summer brights’, it seems you can easily find it in just about anything your little heart desires.

But as popular as cobalt blue is in fashion, there hasn’t really been a recent surge in cobalt blue home decor (yet?). Well, at least not that I’ve noticed, anyway. And, I probably spend more time perusing home decor retail and media than average ;-).

When I think of cobalt blue in the home, images of nautical rooms (bold stripes) and french country kitchens (paired with yellow) come to mind. Of course, there’s also the traditional go-tos, like glassware, transferware and Chinese porcelain. But, when was the last time you saw a cobalt blue wall or sofa? It’s not something you see a lot of. Since fashion trends typically transcend to the home, its kinda curious that there’s not more rich blue in the home decor market right now.

If cobalt blue fashion works so well for different hair colors/skin tones, then the same should be said for the home. We all know that it’s the perfect pairing for crisp white and sunny yellow; but cobalt blue is also a great complement to many other different paint colors.

Perhaps it’s the design world’s current love affair with neutral rooms that holds us back from embracing cobalt blue in our homes as much as we have our wardrobes. But, maybe it’s coming? Fingers crossed.

Personally, I love bright pops of color against a neutral backdrop. For me, saturated color is what gives a space personality.
