Green house, blue door – yup, I’m a rebel I tell ya.

This post was most recently updated on September 23rd, 2019

Like all of us, now that the weather’s a bit warmer, I’m getting excited about sprucing up some things outside the house.

I’ve been wanting to paint my red front door a shade of watery blue for awhile now. I was first inspired by this gorgeous inspiration photo I saw over at House of Turquoise (and credited to Hiya Papaya) last year.

Seriously dreamy, yes?

Well, besides the fact that we don’t have a Craftsman door like this one (bummer), the other ‘problem’ is that our siding is green.

Why is that a problem, you ask?

(OK, so maybe you didn’t ask, but I’m gonna tell you anyway.)

It turns out that I’m haunted by a silly little rule that sticks in my head from childhood.

“Blue and green should never be seen,

except with something in between”

Like anyone else who grew up with this little piece of ‘wisdom’, I always accepted that blue and green was a ghastly coupling.

But , seriously, what a crazy concept.  I mean, aren’t blue and green technically ‘analogous colors’ (next to each other) on the color wheel, making it a perfectly acceptable color combination?  And, in reality, don’t green and blue – both colors of nature – look fresh and fabulous together? Of course they do.  And, so much so, that it’s become one of my favorite ‘go-to’ color combinations in my home.

But, funny enough, when it comes to using this pairing outside my house – you know, for all the world to see – I’ve been a little more hesitant.  I mean, what if passers-by also grew up with this crazy Blue-Green Nonsense too?  Would they think I was off my rocker?!? Gasp!

Here's the idea!

Well, I’m sure there might be a few nay-sayers out there, but I’m going for it anyway!

Today, while at Home Depot, I bought a full gallon of blue paint: Martha Stewart’s ‘Artesian Well’.  Oh yah I did. 🙂

And, on the next warm day, I’m gonna be a total color rebel and paint my red door blue.  Oh yah, I am :-).

(Not at all sure why I’m talking like that, lol)

I just hope I wont have to paint my blue door red (again).

{^Insert nervous giggle here}.

Until next time,
