To seal the wood and make it washable? Or is the poly an unnecessary step? I think your ceiling turned out beautiful and it is exactly what we want to do in our cabin. Hi there! We actually have pine shiplap in our half bathroom, and it has held up well. The whitewash mixture is created from either primer or flat ceiling paint, so in this case, I would definitely use primer. However, I am not a paint expert, so it might be best to consult a local paint supplier to confirm whether this is a good solution for your bathroom, depending on the amount of humidity you have.
