Call me crazy, but my favorite rooms to swoon over are Mudrooms.
Perhaps that’s because I’ve never had one that’s truly worked.
My front entry (“The Drop Zone”) is cluttered with at least 20 pairs of shoes ranging from size 2T to men’s 12 and everything in between. The hooks, so heavily laden with ballet bags, music bags, book bags, and purses, have literally off the walls several times now.
And, ohhhh the crazy stuff you’ll find in there. The other day, I found my husband’s size 12 shoe stuffed with Barbie’s head (sans body), a rusty dinky, and granola bar. (Perhaps the latest hiding spot for one of our 20 month twin boy’s “treasures”?) I couldn’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness.
My side mudroom doubles as a laundry room, a spot for the dog beds and food, and an extra pantry, so there’s no a a hope in H-E-2-sticks that you can even open the door in there most days.
Yes, nothing makes my heart pitter patter faster than an entry that’s both pretty and functional. I am in awe of any homeowner that can make sense of all that clutter.
Our newly completed basement has a large mudroom that will be used by the kids when they come in from the backyard. This is my chance to get it right!
So I went looking for inspiration, and here’s what I found! Just look at these magnificent mudrooms. Beautiful and neat as a pin! (But my big question: Do they ALWAYS look this great? Wait, don’t answer that. I like to live with the hope that it really is possible!)
