Tangerine Tango {Pantone’s 2012 Color of the Year}: Definitely a pop of pretty!

This post was most recently updated on September 23rd, 2019

Tangerine Tango is Pantone’s color of the year for 2012.

Talk about pretty!

Tangerine Tango: What is it?

The Pantone Color Institute calls ‘Tangerine Tango’ “a spirited reddish orange” that will “provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward”. Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

I’ll admit, I’ve never been a big fan of orange.  I think its one of those colors you either love or hate.  I’m more comfortable on the cool side of the colour wheel – especially icy blues and whites. I guess I was permanently traumatized by the 1500 square feet of “80s peach” carpet in our first home that we ripped up with our own hands. Bleck.

But about 6 months ago, I started noticing a really yummy shade of orange – tangerine – that started to change my mind about orange.  I think what first caught my eye was how lovely  tangerine looked with my all-time favorite color, Robin’s Egg Blue. It seemed that every time I opened Pinterest or a decor mag, I kept seeing this gorgeous color combination.

So when my friend asked me to help her pick colors for her new playroom, we settled on a yummy shade of Tangerine and a watery blue.  I even wrote a post back then about My New Color Crush: Tangerine!

Tangerine is such a happy, energetic color.  I especially love how all of these rooms only need a pop or two of Tangerine – through a pillow or drapery – to make a big impact.  That means you can test Tangerine out with small accessories, before committing to marriage.

So has Tangerine won you over (yet)?  Well, if not, get ready.  It seems we’re gonna see more of it in the coming months.

Until next time, happy decorating,
