Emerald Green with Envy? {Pantone’s Color of the Year 2013}

Emerald Green with Envy? {Pantone’s Color of the Year 2013}

Last year it was Tangerine Tango. The year before, it was Honeysuckle.  Before that, it was my personal favorite, Turquoise.  So, by now, maybe you’ve heard that the Pantone Color of the Year for 2013 is Emerald Green? “PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald” is described as “a lively, radiant, and lush green”…”a color of elegance and beauty  that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.”

The Pantone press release reads:

“As it has throughout history, multifaceted Emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate. Symbolically, Emerald Green brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.” See more here.

Personally, I’ve always been partial to Emerald Green because it’s my birthstone.  Also, like another of my faves, cobalt blue, it’s a color that  translates well in the world of fashion and beauty, as complements just about any skin tone or eye color.

But I have to admit that I’m a little apprehensive about how Emerald Green might translate into home decor. Personally, I could never READ MORE HERE

Free Christmas Printable: “I will honor / honour Christmas in my heart” (Scrooge)

Free Christmas Printable: “I will honor / honour Christmas in my heart” (Scrooge)

Today, I wanted to share a free Christmas printable with you. Our 8-year old daughter recently performed in a local production of Scrooge, so as a tribute to that experience, I wanted to somehow incorporate a little bit of Scrooge in our Christmas decorating this year.  That sounds a bit bizarre, lol, since Scrooge gets a bad rap this time of year: “Don’t be such a Scrooge”, “Bah Humbug”, etc..  But, in the story, Scrooge eventually realizes the error of his stingy ways. Towards the end, he declares: “I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year.”  I’ve always loved those words, so I put them to paper, framed them, and displayed them on top of our hutch.

Map Art and Mini-Masterpieces {Plus, in other news: 25 is the new 31!}

Map Art and Mini-Masterpieces {Plus, in other news: 25 is the new 31!}

Have you noticed? Yup. I’ve fallen behind in this 31 Days of DIY Wall Art project. In my defense, I did warn you, lol.  I really thought I could stay on top of posting every day for the month of October, but I’m realizing that I bit off more than I can chew.

So, I’m gonna put up the white flag, and state the obvious: I probably won’t get all the way to 31 DIY Wall Art Ideas before Halloween. I know, I know – I can hear the earth shattering beneath my feet :-). Instead, I’m now setting a more realistic goal of 25 Ideas. That’s a nice round number, don’t ya think?!?

Here’s two more diy wall decor ideas that I’ve talked about here before, and still LOVE.

Idea #21: Decorating with Maps

Decorating with maps has definitely been on trend over the past year or two, and I’m still smitten. There’s just something about a huge wall map – or a gallery wall of framed maps – that strikes all the right notes for me.

It’s a great way to add some visual interest in a child’s room or nursery.

A tisket, a tasket, it’s time to hang a basket! (DIY Wall Art Idea #17)

A tisket, a tasket, it’s time to hang a basket! (DIY Wall Art Idea #17)

When I first  saw a post by Melissa at the Inspired Room on how she used baskets as wall art on the entry wall of her craftsman-inspired home, I think I might have drooled a little (or, a lot).  I LOVE Melissa’s style, and this wall is one of my favorite spaces in her home. Truthfully, I’d never really thought of hanging baskets on a wall, but when I saw this photo of her’s, I wondered why it wasn’t a more obvious choice for wall decor.  (She even used one of the baskets to cover an annoying light switch – clever!)

This DIY Wall Art Idea is Really ‘Over My Head’! (Idea #16)

Are you on Pinterest like me?  If so, you’ll understand what I mean when I say I had a “Pinterest moment” 🙂 when I first spotted this creative wall art idea in my pin feed earlier this year.  I immediately wished I’d thought of it before filling my walls with all sorts of other things! Now I’ve got wall envy!

Do you know what this awesome ‘art’ is created from?
