Did you know that 2016 colour trends are all about creating drama? 2016 is just around the corner, and deep, saturated colour is in! BEHR Paint’s 2016 Colour Trends palette (see it:Behr: 2016 Colour Trends) is full of stimulating and sensory-rich hues.
2016 Colour Trends: BEHR Blue Vortex (T16-10)
Personally, I’m loving on Behr Blue Vortex (T16-10) (see photo above) from the 2016 Colour Trends line. It’s rich and regal, and looks all kinds of fabulous with ivory and/or gold.
Later in this post, you’ll have an opportunity to win 3 gallons of you very own BEHR Color Trends paint. Woot woot! There’ll be 4 lucky winners. If you are more of a neutrals-lover, you can still have fun with dramatic colour by painting an accent wall, or a piece of furniture than will pop against a neutral background.
I decided to update a side table for our basement TV room using Behr Blue Vortex. Even though the side table was looking sad and unloved (see photo below), I could never part with it. It was still quite stylish, but had lots of dings and scratches. I was happy to finally have an excuse to take it out of storage, and bring it back to life!
One of my favourite parts of any paint project is opening the paint can! I know all you paint /decor nerds out there can relate. It’s so exciting to crack the top open, and see what shiny new paint colour awaits you. My heart definitely pitter-pattered with Blue Vortex. It’s a stunning, rich-toned blue. It it was easy to see why this dramatic hue was part of Behr’s 2016 colour trends .
It took me no time at all to tackle this little table. To achieve a smooth finish with no brush strokes, I used a foam roller and a small foam brush. The trick to getting a great finish is patience. I’m generally a very impatient person, so I learned this painting lesson the hard way. After painting lots of pieces over the years, I’ve realized that you can’t overload your brush. Plus, for best results, don’t paint a second coat while the first one is wet or sticky, no matter how tempting it is!
BEHR really hit it out of the park with this color. Paired with cream and/or gold accessories, Blue Vortex packs a super-stylish punch. It would be really beautiful in a formal room, but also plays so nicely with the casual neutrals and textures in my home.
If you’d like to see some of the other BEHR 2016 Colour Trends paint hues in action, check out these lovely projects. But be sure to come back and enter the giveaway (below).

This pop of blue is amazing! I love to use neutral tones on the walls of common areas and hadn’t considered such a bold statement piece…this changes things!

I know, right? I’m a neutrals lover too, but it’s fun to add some colour in statement pieces around the house. And the nice thing about paint is that you don’t have to live with it forever. You can always swap it out as your tastes and trends change. Thanks for coming by, Courtney! ~Kerri
