This year, it’s a Tiffany blue and silver Christmas for us!
(Well, almost. Even though my home’s interior does not reflect it, I do still have a soft spot for traditional Christmas colours. So our front porch/entry is decorated in reds and greens; it’s a departure from the cool-toned Winter Wonderland colours I’ve used in inside.)
The thing I really love about this icy Christmas colour scheme is that it blends really well with my year-round decor and accessories. When I decorated in traditional colours, the tree and decorations and stood out a little too much for my liking. I know that to some people, that might sound a little bizarre, lol, – after all, isn’t that the very point of Christmas decorating? Well…yes.
But, if you’re like me, you also feel a little claustrophobic after just a few weeks of the holiday season. With all that green and red clashing with my surroundings, I found myself itching to take everything down right after the big day. Which was kinda sad, given how much effort goes into it.
My solution was a simple one. To get full enjoyment from my decorating, I chose a Christmas colour scheme that was harmonious with my home. And it really didn’t require spending a fortune on new bulbs. I already had a stash of silver ones, so I used all of those, and then purchased a large package of sparkly blue bulbs which were pretty inexpensive. I’ve also been collecting some additional ‘special’ decorations in this Tiffanys-inspired colour over the past couple of years, and will continue to do so.
Come to think of it, although it wasn’t intentional (well, consciously anyway) most of my decorations could also be described as ‘Tiffanys-inspired’ too. There’s a big sparkly crystal shoe, a little silver handbag, a large solitaire diamond ring, the Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower, and a bedazzled figure skate. It kinda makes me think of spending Christmas in a Big City, like New York or Paris.
So, how about you? Do you decorate in non-traditional Christmas colours?
