I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Day yesterday! Last year at about this time, I looked back at my full year of fireplace mantel decorating ideas (for 2011), season by season. I thought I’d do it again for 2012. I’ve been freakishly addicted to decorating my mantel for special holidays long before I started blogging about home decor. But when I did start blogging, I was happy to discover that there are lots more ‘mantel freaks’ out there too!… {more…}
Pin ItIn my holiday home tour the other day, I shared a picture of our 8-year old daughter’s Christmas tree. This year she made a colorful, blinged-out monogram for the top. (Last year, she had a ballerina tree and we topped it with a ballerina teddy bear – times, they are a changin’.)
If you are looking for a fun and easy craft to do with your daughter(s) over the coming days, either as a tree topper or perhaps as friend gifts, this is a sweet idea.… {more…}
Pin ItThis year our Christmas tree has a definite woodland feel to it. I didn’t plan it that way, even though woodland-themed Christmas trees seem to be on trend this year.
There’s a few acorns here and there, but I think the woodsy feel comes from all the owls. I’ve have a thing for owls. Have I mentioned it before
?
I started collecting owl Christmas ornaments a couple of years ago. I think it’s kinda fun to collect something special for your tree each year.… {more…}
Pin ItThis morning we awoke to the first real snowfall this year. It’s the ‘perfect snow’ – a Winter Wonderland-Marshmallow World kind of snow, that’s perfect for making snowmen. The kids on our cul de sac are all out in their snowsuits with rosy cheeks and magic carpets. On another day, it would be the perfect week-before-Christmas setting.
But today, it doesn’t feel much like Christmas to us adults, does it? As a mom of 3 beautiful young kids, one who is in third grade, Friday’s news has been impossible to digest. It can’t even be described as a parent’s worst nightmare because, quite frankly, it’s not a place that your mind would ever allow you to go.… {more…}
OK, so I *think* I’m done with the Christmas decorating. When it comes to seasonal decorating, I have a slight problem, in case you haven’t noticed by now. I have to make a full stop; otherwise, I could keep going until the 25th! But then I’d have way too much to take down later. Plus, I have to move on to a million other things on my Christmas to-do list. Like, for example, I haven’t wrapped a thing yet. Nodda. I like decorating so much more than wrapping.… {more…}
Pin ItIf you read my blog last Christmas, you might remember that I created a full-on Dr. Seuss-themed Christmas tree for our basement family room! Well, it’s up again (yay!), and we’re still just as excited about it.
The best thing is that this year, our 3-year old boys really ‘get it’. Last year, they were kind of oblivious. But now that they love “Cat in da Hat”, looking at the tree brings them endless enjoyment.
I didn’t make anything new for the tree this year. I think I maxed out on handmade Dr.… {more…}
Pin ItToday, I wanted to share a free Christmas printable with you!
Our 8-year old daughter recently performed in a local, main stage production of Scrooge. As a tribute to that wonderful experience, I wanted to somehow incorporate a little bit of Scrooge in our Christmas decorating this year.
That sounds a bit bizarre, I realize, since Scrooge usually gets a bad rap this time of year: “Don’t be such a Scrooge”, “Bah Humbug”, etc.. In the story, though, Scrooge eventually realizes the error of his stingy ways. Towards the end, he declares: “I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year.” I’ve always loved those inspiring words – if only we could all live by them, right?… {more…}

Welcome to A Pop of Pretty, a Canadian home decorating blog that chronicles my love of home decor and pretty things. I'm out to prove (mostly to myself!) that a pretty home is still possible amid the circus of 3 young kids, including twin toddlers. {More...}Subscribe via RSS…
