Do you decorate for Halloween? It seems that Halloween is either a love it or hate it kind of holiday.
Before I had kids, I didn’t love Halloween. Like, at all. You might even say I hated it. (Gasp)
I didn’t decorate for Halloween, except maybe a sad, lonely pumpkin on the front step.
Back then, Halloween just meant having to rush home from work (where I basically lived before having kids) just to pass out candy to strangers.
Fast forward 10 years. Yup, that IS in fact me in the family photo. Obviously, times have changed.
Over the past decade, I’ve been collecting cute, whimsical decorations for this little Halloween tree. It’s filled with all kinds of cute, totally-not-scary sparkly critters.
Ten years ago, if you’d said the words “Halloween tree”, I’d be dazed and confused.
You see, these days we now we live on a cul de sac of 30+ kids.
In a neighbourhood of 132,549 kids. (OK, maybe I exaggerate, but it seems like it some days).
And, we have 3 kids of our own.
Now, I’m a Halloween convert. I have to be, lol.
I’m still not the Chevy Chase of Halloween.
But I’ll admit that I do decorate for Halloween with a smile on my face.
Even though I decorate for Halloween, when it comes to decorations, we are definitely light-weights – no gore, no blood, or bones.
Oh, and no rodents. They’re my one fear in life. Even the fake ones send chills up my spine.
Spiders and bats are ok, as long as they are made with sequins and sparkles, and have cute gems for eyes.
I can even handle creepy eyeballs, as long as somebody will make me a martini with them. I can handle anything in a martini.
Even the fireplace mantel gets decked out when I decorate for Halloween. I talked about this year’s version the other day. (See: Kid Friendly Halloween Decorating: Big BOO Halloween Mantel).
Like everything else, it’s more cute than scary.
Yup, long gone are the days of the lonely pumpkin on the front step. These days, I’m all in.
I’d love to know if you decorate for Halloween too. And, if so, are you all about the gore, or are you a wimp like me?
Until next time,
K.
