Hello there, friends! Happy Fall! With colder weather ahead , I’m taking full advantage of any days that are still warm enough for painting outside. I’ve been painting up a storm over the past few weeks! Our entry doors needed some TLC, so I recently updated them with a pretty shade of blue called Behr Marquee Dayflower.

Behr Marquee Dayflower isn’t too far off the shade of blue we painted the front door a couple of summers ago, which was a little more aqua. (Check out my post, How to paint a door in under an hour {The Harried Mom’s Guide to Paint a Front Door!}. Dayflower has a little less green than the previous hue; it’s more of a true blue. I didn’t want to make a big change, but I was ready for a softer, more subdued tone.
Here’s how it looked when it was a little more aqua.
You may have heard by now that Behr Marquee is a one-coat paint. (Check it out in an earlier post: Nightstand Makeover: Behr Marquee Soft Shoe).
I know! Whatatty-what? It’s hard to fathom that you could finish an entire paint job in just one coat!
This one coat feature was truly tested on our side door. I’m embarrassed to admit, but the side door was still a shade of red from many years back. It was also all scratched up by our pooches. Overall, it was just a sorry state of affairs! Well, if you’ve ever painted over red, you know it can be a huge pain, requiring many coats. I think that’s probably the reason I never painted this door on the last round! But using Behr Marquee made this job quick and painless.
After using Behr Marquee on several painting projects now, I do have a few tips on how it works best.
- You need to re-train yourself a little on how to paint, but it’s soooo worth it the time you’ll save!
- Keep your brush wet and work in small sections of your project.
- With each pass, don’t try and spread your paint over a large surface, or you won’t get the benefit of one-coat coverage – especially on a project like this one.
- If you work in small sections, you’ll essentially be finishing up a section of your project before moving on to the next one. This is a little different than a typical paint job where you do a first coat on the entire project, and then go back over it again with more coats.
This was the first pass over the red door.
