For a fanatical seasonal decorator like me, November is a bore.
In Canada, we celebrate Thanksgiving in early October, which means that November is like a black hole between October’s spook and December’s sparkle. What usually happens is that I end up decorating for Christmas too early.
“Too early” is a totally subjective thing, I realize. There’s more than a few Christmas fans out there who happily hoist their trees in November! (Don’t think we can’t see the lights twinkling through your windows, lol). Hey, whatever floats your boat. If it makes you happy, go for it. Personally, for me “too early” is anything earlier than December 1st. In many past years, I’ve decorated in late November, but by Christmas Eve, I’ve been itching to get it all down.
So this year, I’m trying a different approach. I’ve added a little wintery cheer as a nod to the upcoming season, but I’m saving the sparkle until after Dec 1st. That way, I get my Christmas fix in November, but still have some decorating fun to look forward to.
So here’s a few of my ideas on how to transform your home for the season this month, without overdoing it on the ‘overtly Christmas’ decor before December arrives…
Simple evergreen balls in a dish.
Furry pillows.
Silver, glittery ‘Fall’ decor.
Potted evergreens.
Red berries (in a country star).
Cozy throws.
Warm mittens.
Creamy pillar candles.
Glass urns filled with greenery.
And…
a few more snaps of how it’s coming together…
Do tell! What’s YOUR November decorating strategy?
Do you decorate for Christmas early, or do you save it all for December?
Have a happy day,
KL 🙂

Id say november is a bit of a bore because of where it sits, we dont have the excitement of christmas and halloween trimmings have been cleaned up – its a hangover month really

Well, it may be a black hole for you, but you sure have filled it with some lovely touches in your home! It’s a real gift to know when you’ve added just the right things.

I always feel like November is kind of a ‘holding pattern’ where I get ready for the big deal of December! Even though I’m Canadian, I always take the American Thanksgiving as my signal to put up the Christmas decor, but until then, everything’s kind of ‘on hold’. I love your ideas, though, and may have to steal them!

Steal away, CA!!! 😉 ~Kerri

It has snowed where I live so November for me means I can get out winter snowman decorations…nothing with Santa or Christmas trees though. I use alot of red for the whole winter so cozy throws, candleholders and piles of books with red bindings are stacked around the house. I change the bedding and curtains to something heavier for cold nights as well then I sit with my cup of tea and plan where to put the christmas tree in only a few more weeks.

Oooh, I’d love to have some snow before Christmas! We usually get a little dusting. I have my fingers crossed! Thanks for dropping by , Kim! ~Kerri

Some years I put out a little display of Grandpa’s war things–my father-in-law served in WWII out of respect for Remembrance Day. But, I agree, it is a dreary month.

A Remembrance Day display is such a great idea, Alana, especially since you have personal heirlooms that you can use. Thanks for popping by 🙂 ~Kerri
