The past few Christmases, I’ve gone the glam Christmas decor route.
That meant lots of silver and sparkle, with a blinged out tree and mantel.
In fact, last year, for the first time, my Christmas mantel had no greenery at all. The only pop of color came from tiffany blue accents.
This year, though, I’m drawn back to the to ‘old school’, natural Christmas decor. It seems like everything I come across that makes me “ooh and ahhh” has natural green boughs, plaid, and happy pops of red. I’m LOVING anything that has that cozy rustic, cottage feeling that makes you crave hot chocolate and a crackling fire.
Check out this gorgeous traditional Christmas eye candy. It’s no wonder I am having trouble deciding!

I’m so torn.
A change would be nice. But I sooooo love my sparkly Christmas things. Luckily, I’ve acquired enough tree trimmings over the years that I can more or less choose one route or the other.
Are you a traditional Christmas decorator, or do you like to experiment with more trendy Christmas colors?
Have a happy day,
Kerri

Sorry…hit post too soon! So, my vote is to see the natural, red Christmas! I just know you will make it beautiful, and with some of the red you added to your house this year, I think you can make it work. Red and turquoise look great together! Hmmm…maybe I can mix some of it in! I miss a beautiful red and green Christmas 🙂 I am sorry I tossed a lot of my red decor, though most was probably out of style anyway. Happy decorating!!!

Hey there! I am so with you on this!!!!! I LOVED your decor last year, and I would love to see the natural route this year too. I hear you….I have been loving the natural evergreens, white and cream. I’m still staying away from red though, not because I don’t like it, but because there is nothing red in my house, and it just looks too overdone and out of place if I add red. I bought a bunch of blue ornaments last year, but I think they are going to stay in their boxes. I am still doing a bit of sparkle, but more understated. Lots of real evergreens, soft creamy ribbon, and antique silver accents. That’s the vision…not sure I have the inventory to pull it off though, ha ha! Might have to do a little more shopping!!! Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us…I am sure it will be spectacular! Oh…where did you get the sparkly netting on your tree last year? Can’t seem to find anything like that here!

Lynette, anything you do is going to be stunning; red, or no red! But your vision sounds beautiful. I hope you’ll post lots of pics to your blog. The netting (sinamay) came from Christmas Warehouse, but this year, I seem to see it EVERYWHERE. I’m not sure if you have Bowring or if that’s just a Canadian thing? Anyway, they have white/silver there. I’ve also seen it at Hallmark Stores in a bunch of colours. I just bought some there in red/white striped for the Dr. Seuss tree I plan to do in the basement for the kiddies! Such fun! Thanks for coming by!! Talk soon, Kerri

This is our second Christmas in our house, and last year was a “put out everything that we had given to us second hand” decorating scheme.
I’m determined not to do that this year!
I have visions of being non-traditional…maybe in the kitchen, but in the living room which is very Victorian (dark walls and fancy woodwork circa 1899), I think I’ll go the traditional route.
