It’s been a rough couple of days around here. We’re still mourning the loss of our sweet pup, and I am sure, we probably always will :-(.
Tonight, I need a happy distraction, so I thought I’d show you what I was up to last week.
Waaaay back before Christmas, I showed you my messy craft desk with these painted letters…
Well, it only took 3 months, but hallelujah, I finally pulled this project together last week.
My idea when I painted those letters back in November was to create a ‘feel-good’ kinda gallery wall on the staircase to our recently renovated basement. The whole ‘feel’ of that space (see some early pics here) is pretty fun and playful, so I wanted this entry wall to make us smile.
I’ve done lots of gallery walls in my home (maybe too many? no, never!), but I was getting tired of using photos. I wanted something different.
Inspired by my love of alphabet walls (see “I Wanna Buy a Vowel: Gaga over Alphabet Walls!”) I decided to use big monogram letters that represent the members of our family. I hand-painted them to match the color scheme of the basement – red, light aqua and grey-taupe.
I just couldn’t resist the other two pieces of art. They are so perfect for a ‘family’-inspired gallery wall.
And guess what? They were FREE. Yup. Like, as in: zero dollars. And, even better…wait for it….they are free to you as well! If you remember, I talked about free printable art a few weeks ago when I posted about 10 DIY Wall Art Ideas. Didn’t believe me? Well, here’s the proof! I’ll tell you where you can download this free art at the end of this post!
Sorry about the grainy pics! I think I was overly-ambitious on the ISO. It’s tricky to get good natural light for photos in a basement. {Um, especially when its winter, and the window wells outside are filled with snow and need to be shoveled asap…hint, hint, nudge, nudge to my husband on the off-chance he is reading this, lol.}
Last week, my sweet daughter asked if we could add the initials of our two dogs. Sniff, sniff. That was before we said good-bye to our Lab a few days ago. I think it would be a nice tribute to have a big ‘T’ there in memory of our pup’s ‘forever spot’ in our family.
OK, enough with the sadness.
You want to know where you can get that free printable art, right?
One of my favorite blogs, Eighteen25, created the “What I love most about my home is who I share it with” art. It comes in several different color combinations. Click here to go and download the totally free, no-strings-attached printable(s)!
The other piece, “Love makes life a beautiful ride” was created by a site called SissyPrint. The free download can be found by clicking here.
Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Until next time,
Kerri

Hi, I’ve had this post pinned forever and am just now getting around to being able to implement it so I’m just now coming up with questions. What is the approximate height of two different sized letters you used?
Kerri says
Ho Stephanie! I just measured them and the largest is 18 inches and the smaller ones are 9 inches. Hope this is helpful! ~Kerri

That’s VERY helpful, thank you! Hobby Lobby in the US has various letter styles on sale right now in 20″, 12″, 9″ and 4″. Looks like I’ll be stocking up!

I was also wondering where you purchased the oversize letters. I cant seem to find any this size or larger, Any help would be appreciated!
Kerri says
I lucked into them at HomeSense here in Canada, but I know that I’ve seen a few online stores that sell craft letters in all sizes and different fonts. I just can’t recall the name right now, but if you search, you should be able to come up with it. I’ve seen one or two of them on Pinterest as “sources for letters”.

Hi! New to your site courtesy of what else?! Pinterest! I am a new step mom of 3 (2 boys & 1 girl) so I have been wanting to do a wall art project for our living room like this. Sort of a cute visual way to show us all as a family unit! I will be “stealing” your fabulous idea! 😉 I do have to ask (and let me apologize since I am new to your site & this info may be listed somewhere!!) what color is your wall color?!?! It looks sort of like a light chocolate milk?! You def have a new fan! 🙂

Hi Nicole! Thanks for coming by, and as well for your sweet comments! The wall color is Benjamin Moore Ashley Gray, which is kind of deceiving b/c it it definitely more brown than gray! Hope you’ll come by again soon. ~Kerri
