Easy Fall Decorating {How Fall Looks Around Here!}
“FALL!” There…I said it. I usually walk on egg-shells this time of year as any mention of “FALL!” can drive Summer fans over the edge. But if you’ve followed my decorating blog for more than a minute, you probably know that I’m cray-cray-crazy for Fall, and I’ve actually shown great self-discipline by staying quiet this long! I hate to wish Summer away too, but you know what? I might as well just admit that I’m sooo not a Summer kind of girl. Fall is definitely my pace. I saw the first leaves turn color this weekend, so I’m now itching to break out the pumpkins. I decided to flip back through some of my Fall decorating pictures for inspiration.
Here’s how Fall has looked around here over the past few years…READ MORE!
My Magnolia Leaf Holiday Decorating Crush
Ever since we visited NYC just before Christmas last year, I’ve been crushing on the idea of using magnolia leaves in holiday decorating. There’s just something ‘0h-so-Martha’ in the natural simplicity of a magnolia wreath or garland. Magnolia garlands and wreaths seemed to be everywhere in The City, but this particular display on 5th Ave was the most inspiring…
Perhaps using magnolia leaves for holiday decorating isn’t new to most of you. But, in my neck of the woods, magnolia trees aren’t abundant. Heck, I’m not even sure if they grow here. (Can’t you tell how much I know about gardening?!?) Even if they do, it’s not like you can just go out and gather hundreds of magnolia leaves off the ground for a decorating project. Apparently, you need between 250 and 300 magnolia leaves to make a 6-foot length of garland!
But, as luck would have it, the other day, I noticed they were selling them in bunches at Costco. Ooh la la! So I went looking for inspiration on how I could incorporate them into some of my Christmas decorating this year. Here’s a few pretty decorating ideas that I immediately fell for… READ MORE
A November Mantel (Late Fall / Pre-Christmas Decorating)
November is a bit of an oddball month here for seasonal decor. Our (Canadian) Thanksgiving falls in early October, once Halloween is over with, I’m pretty done with Fall decor. But since it’s too early to decorate for Christmas, I either need to keep my mantel bare (never!) or decorate it in a way that says ‘holidays’ without being overtly Christmas.
I decided to keep it simple: some pillar candles, frosty white berries, birch logs, and a bunch of branches that I collected in my parents’ yard after a Tropical Storm ravaged their trees earlier this Fall.
Fall Decorating Ideas: Decorating with Neutrals
I am fanatical about decorating for Fall, but I find that my home feels a little chaotic when I have too much red, orange and purple going on. All those vibrant hues can become distracting, and I tire of them easily. So, this Fall, I decided to try and keep things more neutral, starting with my ‘Unfall’ Fall Mantelwhich I talked about here the other day.
Fall isn’t usually a season associated with neutrals, but, there are actually a lot of Fall trademarks that don’t have much color: white pumpkins, silver dollars, grain sacks, acorns, wheat, straw, twigs and burlap, to name a few. The great thing about these neutral Fall elements is that they have a lot of texture, which still makes them visually appealing, despite their lack of vibrancy.
To keep the neutral palette interesting, read more…
